What are the general rules and expectations for the league?

Our league follows NFHS Rules Guidelines with several key exceptions designed for youth play. All games consist of four- 8 minute quarters with the clock stopping only during the last 2 minutes of each quarter. Teams are allotted 3 time-outs per game. Overtime is 2 minutes with the clock stopping in the final minute, followed by a sudden death second overtime if needed. The clock does not stop if there is a 15-point spread. Importantly, there is NO full court press allowed for younger grades, and all teams across 1st-6th grade MUST play man-to-man defense. Coaches may officiate their own games and are permitted to coach their athletes while officiating. For specific grade-level rules on hoops and ball sizes, please see the details below.

What important details or tips should families know?

Families should familiarize themselves with the grade-specific rules outlined here to ensure a smooth season. Communication with your child's coach is key for practice schedules and game updates. We emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development above all else. Please ensure your child arrives prepared for games and practices. Are there any common misunderstandings or special rules to be aware of?

Yes, common points of clarification often revolve around defense and pressing. For all 1st-6th Grade Teams, only Man-To-Man Defense is allowed. For 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, there is strictly NO full court press. For 5th-6th grade teams, there is NO PRESSING IF UP BY 15+ points. These rules are in place to encourage skill development and ensure fair play. Hoop heights and ball sizes also vary by grade, which are detailed below for your reference.

Grade-specific rules overview:

2nd Grade Girls & Boys Basketball: 9 foot hoops, junior size basketballs.
3rd & 4th Grade Girls Basketball: 9 foot hoops, junior size basketballs.
3rd & 4th Grade Boys Basketball: 10 foot hoops, junior size basketballs.
